Since 1938, the Milwaukee Center for Independence has been assisting individuals and families with special needs and barriers to achievement reach their highest levels of independence. Here are some quick facts about MCFI.
To assist individuals and families with special needs to better live and work in the community.
Since 1938, our goal has been dignity and independence for each person we serve. We believe that independence is the key to involvement in the community and that each individual can contribute to our society.
MCFI has an annual budget of $56 million, with 525 employees. About 50 volunteers serve on our boards and committees, and about 350 other volunteers assist our work in various ways.

CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) has given MCFI core programs its highest certification. CARF surveyors said MCFI has a "culture of innovation and enthusiasm that is unmatched in the industry." MCFI Pediatric Special Care is accredited by the Joint Commission (JCAHO).
