Summer meal program visited by Rep. Gwen Moore

U.S. Rep Gwen Moore visited the Merrill Park summer meal site Aug. 26 and called for Congress to continue funding the school lunch program.

Merrill Park is one of 55 summer meal program sites served by MCFI Fresh Connection. The program, coordinated by Hunger Task Force, serves more than 825,000 meals during the summer months. MCFI has served more than 40,000 meals as part of the program this year.

During the summer months, MCFI makes lunches, snacks and dinners for children who may rely on school food programs to eat. This free and healthy option gives kids the nutritious meals they need.

Milwaukee Public School superintendent Dr. Darienne Driver was in attendance, along with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee and Citizen Action of Wisconsin.
