MCFI earns three-year CARF accreditation -- November 8, 2018

By Candace Romano, Associate Director of Communication

The Milwaukee Center of Independence’s Employment Services, Community Integration and Brain Health programs have been accredited by CARF for a period of three years.

This accreditation represents the highest level given to an organization and shows the organization’s substantial conformance to the CARF standards.

The accreditation means that MCFI put itself through a rigorous peer-review process and demonstrated to a team of CARF surveyors during an on-site visit its commitment to offering programs and services that are measurable, accountable, and of the highest quality.

“We take great pride in achieving this high level of accreditation,” said Teri Zywicki, MCFI president and CEO. “CARF’s accreditation demonstrates our commitment to best practices and providing person-centered services. The organization is not required to be accredited; it’s a strategic choice that is an ongoing process that distinguishes our service delivery and affirms our commitment to continuous performance improvement, responsible feedback and accountability to the community, consumers and our stakeholders.””

CARF is an independent, nonprofit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value, and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process and continuous improvement services that center on enhancing the lives of the persons served. Founded in 1966 as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, the accrediting body establishes consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services.

MCFI has been providing life-changing programs for people struggling to gain independence since 1938. It began as Jewish Vocational Service to assist new immigrant families fleeing oppression in Europe settle in our community.

Since then, the agency has grown to a $73 million nonprofit with 30-plus programs, 700 employees, 340 volunteers and 125 interns. We helped 18,500 clients in 2017 on their path to independence.

Our programs include our medical day care, the only community based skilled day nursing service in Milwaukee for children ages birth to 21 with special health care needs that is certified by Medicaid and accredited by the Joint Commission.
